ha 2 true homie metal nevagonna die.
punk turned into hardcore and emo, so its sorta not punk nemore.
grunge turned to "post-grunge" (like nickleback) so its undead, if nething.
newwave... yeah.
and techno has never been taken quite as seriously, although especially in Europe it provides competition as far as coolness.
pop is the only genre that has survived as long but... it's bands tend to be flavor of the month so ferget it.
Metal, the bastard child of Rock and Roll, will never die.
