Holly Mann awakens my spiritual side of things a bit recommending 90 Minutes In Heaven

I guess it must have been a couple of weeks ago that I was talking to Holly and she was just completely blown away and excited about a package that she bought on Amazon.com called “Ninety Minutes In Heaven.” I could tell by her excitement just how much these audios were affecting her. It was really quite nice to hear her so excited about something. I know Holly has been a Christian since her teen years and it’s very apparent when speaking with her, just how much this is a very important part of her life.

My family has never really been the church going type, although we have always believed in a higher power than ourselves. It is our belief that church is simply a place to worship God, but it’s not necessary to go to church to believe in and worship God. I can probably count on my two hands how many times I’ve actually attended any type of church gathering. And also, most of these were for either a wedding or a funeral.

I know this is a little off topic for my blog, but I did acquire these audios in which Holly was so excited about, and it’s really quite an incredible story and it’s been such a refreshing change for me to be inspired by something other than all of the different marketing techniques and strategies that I study on a continual basis. I felt it was worth writing about something a little different for a change.

The audios are a true account of a man named Don Piper, and what had happened to him in the 90 minutes that he was pronouned dead. It’s very important to note that this guy, apparently died instantly as a result of a brutal car crash. It’s very, very interesting listening to these audios to say the least, and you can’t help but imagine yourself (in the future) being in the same situation when you (yourself) dies.

The interesting thing about this, is that since I got these audios, and started listening to them I’m finding myself thinking about God, or the “higher power”, which I prefer to think of it as, much more than I’ve thought about it in a long, long time. When Holly and I were discussing them, I did tell her I think I would enjoy them because I’ve always been completely fascinated by near death experiences, or ghost sitings and that sort of thing. I guess that’s sort of why I’ve always enjoyed shows like Unsolved Mysteries, Cold Case files, and shows like that. Everybody loves a mystery right!

In a strange sort of way when I’ve been thinking about internet marketing and my career in it, I’ve been coming to the conclusion lately not to worry quite as often as I usually do. “God is taking care of you, and he’s unfolding things for you just as they should be, in his/her own time”, is something that’s been entering my mind a lot lately. Of course, I am still working as hard at it as I always have, I know that it all comes with hard work and you can’t simply leave everything to fate and chance. I believe you still have to be doing your part to make things happen for yourself. That’s just the way it is in life, unless you might be one of the very lucky people who might have won a lottery or something, but, it’s extremely rare that such a thing happens.

Some times when I look back over the course of my life, I feel extremely privileged and surprised that I’m even still alive today. Back in my band days, I lived fast and hard. It’s amazing to me that the human body can take as much abuse as it does and it still keeps ticking away. I was never into anything major heavy or anything, but back then, we sure used to drink like it was going out of style. As much as being in that business, used to be where all of my dreams lied, I’m so HAPPY and fortunate that I found the strength in myself to walk away from that lifestyle. At the same time, if you asked me if I had the chance to do anything different, would I? I would have to answer no, since I don’t think had I lived that way, I wouldn’t really appreciate and understand the difference of how much better my life is now.

I’ve always believed that God or our higher power has always put certain people into our lives for a reason. Sometimes I’ve not been sure why Holly Mann has been put into my life, or why, and how, she became a friend. But when I think about it seriously, I feel it is because she somehow always has a way of making me look at myself, and my life, and want to improve who I am.

If you happen to be in the mood for a story, that will really get you thinking and inspire you, Holly was so inspired by these that she placed a link right to them from her blog.

    Hi Davin,

Great post, and I believe it will do you good to have stretched outside a bit from the usual posts. I pray that the audios and Don’s story will lead you to seek the Truth in the Lord. I had not known that Holly is Christian, but that just makes more sense to me, to see all she is involved in, including her work online. I feel pleased to be in the company of like-minded kindred spirits. I have my own testimony for the Lord, and it’s a story for another day. Glad to be a part of your list, and I enjoyed reading your post!

I’ve known about Don’s story for some time, and have been sharing it with friends for awhile myself.

    Take care!
    Paul

Well thanx for stopping by, and leaving the encouraging comments Paul and Mary. It’s always great to see readers enjoy what I’m writing about. Take care, both of you, and yes, I will pay your blog a visit Mary.

Hey Davin. Faith has long been elusive to me. Luckily I got inspired a few years ago. My blog manifestingsuccess has all to do with your thoughts and beliefs and transforming from worry to - well, the kind of thing you mention you find yourself thinking more now, that you have divine support in your life. I’m happy for you. Everyone has it, and while psychologists call it “positive self-talk”, it is a prayer. I think we learn to bless ourselves and so we learn to bless others effectively.

Recently too, a friend gave me a CD of Greg Braden which talks about his spiritual journey and concludes with a blessing meditation that is incredibly powerful. There’s so much good stuff around…..cheers, Dianne

    Hope your doing well Dianne

    Hey Davin,

I realise your blog here’s probably not the place for this, but it’s the only place I’ll probably get to “speak” to you, so here goes (and my prayer is that others that read here will also find this of value:

I’d very strongly suggest you listen carefully to Holly and ask her to tell you more. We have one life - and it ain’t no rehearsal. This is IT. The Bible says God created man after His own image - that doesn’t mean He’s a geezer that sits on a cloud somewhere and created man to look like Him, it means He created man with all His own characteristics. Wisdom, knowledge, rational thought, emotion etc.

He was in absolute, intimate relationship with man (who at first was a perfect being) until man mucked it up and got himself separated from God. Ever since, man has perverted everything that God gave him: humor, anger, desire, sex, love - and, saddest of all - his knowledge and understanding of who God is.

From the very first moment of separation, however, God has been calling out to man and put into action a plan for man to return to Him - to regain the position that he had before the separation from God. It’s all been divinely documented and compiled and makes for fascinating reading - but more than that, it’s actually the manual to the entire process… It’s called the Bible.

I want to strongly encourage you to read it through prayefully and earnestly - it’s much more important than anything you could possibly ever read in your entire life - because it concerns not only your life, but also your eternity. And that’s NO fairy tale!

Do it - you may be a good person (which I believe you are) - but being good does not reunite you with God. He provided one way and one way only to be reunited with Him, and that’s through Jesus Christ. 100% man and 100% God (not 50%/50%), Jesus was able to pay for our sin with His blood and opened the way for us to be reunited once again with God, who calls Himself our Father and wants us to be His children. But believing that He exists is only the beginning - we should walk in faith, doing the things that faith would have us do. And we should really believe that Christ died for us, but also that He was resurrected from the dead and returned to glory from where He came.

And by the way - I couldn’t more strongly disagree with your assertion that you don’t have to go to church to worship and believe in God. That’s spiritual suicide and is the same as a lump of coal saying “I can go away from the fire and lie by myself, and continue glowing indefinitely.” It’s NOT what God wants. We have an enemy who would do anything to keep us from regaining our glorious position with God, and if you’re apart from the herd you’re an easy target for his lies and deceit.

Uh, oh… a whole sermon! Sorry Davin buddy, it just breaks my heart to see what people are giving up on in the name of “free choice” and “free thought” and “God is what you make of him/it.”

    LISTEN to Holly…

With all my very best intentions,

    Phil

Well, certainly a very interesting post Phil. Thanx for the sermon. Just kidding! You have definitely given me some things to think about, and I thank you for your comment. As stated, hopefully some other people will gain something from your comment. Perhaps, you didn’t agree with the beliefs I was raised to believe, as far as spiritual suicide goes. But, it was, what it was. I guess we are all raised in different situations, of course. Thanx again, for the comment, and so much to think about.

    Take care Phil

    Davin

You know artists are always kinda apart from the herd….and the thing that is un-namable is always with them. It just looks different.

    Hi again Davin!

Last one on this subject, I promise. Here are two important things:

    1. God’s sovereignty - He’s God, and as such is free to choose how He expects us to approach/worship/serve Him. If I was raised all my life to believe that I should worship God through - for instance - a stick planted in the ground, and I firmly and childlike believe that that is the right thing to believe and to do because that’s how I was raised, it nevertheless doesn’t make it right! It was impossible for man to bring any form of sacrifice or service or pleading to God to atone for sin. That’s why God Himself had to do it - as the Man Jesus, the Christ (which is the English pronounciation of the Greek translation of the Hebrew word for Messiah). Jesus Himself said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6, New Testament).

    2. Love - He loved you (the Bible says He knew you by name and dreamt dreams about you even before the physical universe was created) and me and the entire world enough to become human, to take our place and to be whipped, crucified and die an cruel death in agony for us. What is our response to that?

I know what mine is. ;-)

Anyhow, I end my discourse and pray that God will convince you in your heart. I fully expect a few scathing criticisms, but that’s OK…

I’d happily continue this conversation if you were interested at all - you have my email.

    Your friend,

    Phil
